Sophie Christiansen visits Equilibrium at The National Dressage Championship
Sophie Christiansen returned glorious from Bejing to show us her Paralympic medals at the Equilibrium stand at the National Dressage Championships.
Competing in the Individual Dressage Championship Test Grade 1a, Christiansen, riding Lambrusco III, finished with a score of 72.8 per cent as the British riders outscored the opposition by four per cent. However, she had to be content with second, which was still an improvement on her placing at Athens four years ago, where she took bronze.
Sophie then earned herself an individual gold medal at the Games with a wonderful performance on Lambrusco III competing in the Individual Freestyle. The Freestyle event requires riders to perform a specific set of moves in any order. Competitors are allowed to add moves and set it to music. Her proud father describes it as "horse dancing." "I can't believe it. I've wanted this for so long," said Christiansen, who scored a massive 76.17%. "Team gold is nice but an individual gold is what I went for."
The Great British Team of Sophie Christiansen, Anne Dunham, Lee Pearson, Simon Laurens went on to take the gold medal a clear 20 points ahead of the German team.
